Call of Duty released some bombshell news surrounding Call of Duty 2022 and the future of Warzone. It has now been confirmed that 2022’s Call of Duty title will be Modern Warfare 2, a direct sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare. Additionally, Warzone 2 is now confirmed and will run on a brand-new engine alongside Modern Warfare 2. With a lot of intel to unpack let’s jump straight into it.

Warzone 2

Released in March 2020, Warzone has been integrated with three Call of Duty titles since launch. The developers have addressed many of the issues faced by players of the uber-popular battle royale. However, similar to how Blackout was phased out with Warzone, Warzone will be phased out with Warzone 2.

The newest iteration of Warzone will build upon the current title and address many of the known issues. A multitude of issues will also be fixed with the impending Season 2 update. Further, this iteration of Warzone will feature an “incredibly ambitious sandbox mode.” Though there was no elaboration on this, this feature will allow players to truly get creative. Although no release date for Warzone 2 has been announced, it is likely to come out during Modern Warfare 2’s life-span.

Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty’s newest title will be called Modern Warfare 2. After the success of 2019’s Modern Warfare, the developers pulled the trigger on a direct sequel. Modern Warfare 2, and Warzone 2, will run on a brand-new engine that has been in development “for years.”

Although an official release date has not been announced, it was stated that Modern Warfare 2 will launch in Fall 2022.
