BREAKING: No New Call of Duty Title in 2023

For the first time since 2003, there will not be a new Call of Duty title next year. Call of Duty titles typically release every year in Q4. The yearly release schedule became topic for discussion after the announcement that Microsoft was acquiring Activision Blizzard. However, we now have some clarity on this topic.

Call of Duty 2022 will be the last title released on the yearly release cycle. It has been confirmed that this title will be Modern Warfare 2 developed by Infinity Ward. Furthermore, Warzone 2 is expected to release within the MW2 life cycle.

The release of this year’s CoD is historic as we will not see another mainline release until 2024. This will be the first time in the history of the franchise that a game will be in its lifecycle for two years. Typically when a new CoD title is released, developers shift their focus away from the previous title. However, Infinity Ward will now be tasked with fully supporting MW2 for two years.

As reported by Bloomberg, Activision will not be releasing a new Call of Duty in 2023. This means that Treyarch’s title will be released in 2024. This is reportedly due to Vanguard falling short of expectation with many believing that Call of Duty releases too frequently. In addition, there will be a new free-to-play online title next year that is not a mainline game.

With plenty of exciting and historic changes on the horizon for Call of Duty, plenty of news is sure to surface. To never miss a thing, be sure to follow IPC on Twitter and Facebook. You can also follow the author of this article YxngTexas.
