Content creators and YouTube “Stars” have been around ever since the inception of the platform in 2005, but times have changed, and so has the community. Introducing: Karnage Clan

There was a simpler time, one where commentary’s over a five to ten minute standard definition recording of gameplay from Call of Duty, or the flavour of the month, would be met with thousands upon thousands of views and ratings. Alas, everything has an expiration date. The community became stale, and creators fought to maintain their viewership with more creative and inspired content. The answer lied with some of the more talented gamers of the generation, and thus .. montages were born.

It wouldn’t be long however before even the flashy editing and hard rock music would become once again redundant. Sure, people still loved to see skilled players do insane “trickshots” with a sniper rifle and a throwing knife, but the community yearned for more. There was an itch, one that wasn’t being scratched. A community of hundreds of thousands, and yet.. content creators still felt isolated from the real world.

Along come content creation teams. A space in which multiple creatives and aspiring YouTuber’s can share the love of entertainment. These teams would forge the path for not only already established creators, but also those who seek “family” feeling provided by a group of people who share the same enthusiasm for a craft that they do. It began with teams such as FaZe Clan and OpTic but there focus was on the eSports side of Call of Duty.

Today, instead, we look at a team that prides itself on the feeling of “family” and community that it brings to the space. It’s not just about the views, the followers and the fame, but about the people it brings together. Whether that be new team members, or those who follow them. Through community events such as “Recruitment Challenges” – in which users are encouraged to submit their most creative and entertaining work, in order to be considered for joining the team, and partnering with brands such as; Scuf; Respawn; KontrolFreek and GFUEL, this extraordinary group of creators is taking the medium by storm.

Their name is KARNAGE Clan, and we were lucky enough to sit down with a few of their longest running and most influential members in order to understand more about them, and why content creation teams really are the future of entertainment. We wanted to know more about why KARNAGE is different to the already established teams mentioned above and how teams help creators find a footing in an already saturated and done-to-death space like YouTube.

In order to find out more about the latter, we spoke to Call of Duty YouTuber eColiEspresso, a member of KARNAGE Clan, to find out his thoughts.

As a creator, KARNAGE Clan has in the past done a tremendous amount for me. From giving me my first larger scale audience to broadcast myself to back in the early days to opening avenues for business relationships that even to this day have proven to be some of my most valuable takeaways from my entire time on social media platforms, there’s no shortage of what the organization, people like Apollo and all those involved have done for me. Now as a co-owner of the organization, I think that it’s my responsibility to keep growing the organization, networking with industry professionals so that I can in turn give those same opportunities to those who are in the position that I was years ago. I ideally strive to see everyone succeed.

There’s no shortage of what the organization has done for me

In Espresso’s words, KARNAGE has given him the ability to open new business relationships early on, and providing invaluable advice and assistance when building a personal brand. From humble beginnings, Espresso has proved himself worthy of passing on that knowledge to those who follow in his footsteps. There is no doubt that without KARNAGE, Espresso’s journey may have been very different. But the question still remains – where do these organisations fit into the world of entertainment, and how does that benefit the community as a whole, rather than just individual creators. Luckily, we have the answer.

I see organizations like KARNAGE fitting into the content creation space much more in the future. I think that organizations of likeminded individuals are always important but in a space where digital content creation is often a new frontier, pioneers of that space can be better suited in numbers for a few reasons. One being that people can rally around a sense of community. It’s relatable, it’s raw and it’s believable to see groups of friends simply having fun doing what they love to do, together. It’s not scripted, it’s not fabricated, it’s just real and I think that resonates with viewers. As well, that sense of community helps all those involved. A friend of mine always says it and I think it’s a great analogy, that a rising tide rises all ships. If KARNAGE, or any other organization has rising stars, that in turn rises all those around them. It’s a communal effort to grow and expand *together*. Even from a business aspect, the lesser seen, financial side of content creation, what can make a hobby into a career, there is power in numbers. Brands seek organizations for the collective, they recognize that a package deal in a lot of cases can be beneficial to all parties involved, even down to the individual creators. From all aspects, the genuine nature of the content to the proper business outlooks, I think organizations will only continue to rise and prove to be a staple in the future of digital content creation

It’s not scripted, it’s not fabricated, it’s just real

The main takeaway from this is that content created between a group of real friends having fun in a space that they all love and exude passion for is real, and that’s what viewers crave. All too often the internet is spilling with content that seems, at it’s core, fake and scripted and ultimately unrelatable. So when you are able to really connect with the people you are watching on your mobile/computer screens, you are entirely more invested in what they have to say.

DexB0T holding the newly announced GFUEL x KARNAGE Clan Shaker

It does not stop there. We’ve learned a little bit about why KARNAGE is good for the community, and how it can help propel smaller creators to new heights, while bringing people together as a family, and providing relatable content. But how exactly does KARNAGE run as a business, and how does it change the world of influencers and online marketing. And just as importantly, how is running an online business such as this one any different to a business in the real world?

We asked KRNG Thump (Director of Operations) to find out more about how KARNAGE runs as a business.

There are many differences and similarities. I would have to say the biggest difference is “reach and impact”. As a leader of an org the decisions we make and direction we lead impact it’s members, staff, community and customers. In my other businesses this is limited to the local population and surrounding areas. With an online organization like KARNAGE the reach is truly global and the potential is phenomenal. We have a collective monthly reach that allows us to be a top level producer for all of our partner companies. The numbers just keep getting bigger each month and with them so does our potential impact. The biggest difference between KRNG and my other businesses is KRNG has much more potential and it’s just getting started.

the reach is truly global and the potential is phenomenal

Thump is a businessman through and through, who has built and managed his own successful ventures out in the real world. So what exactly drew him to undertake such a task and bring his skills to the online world?

I originally got into gaming by playing in solo tournaments and joining GB teams. Eventually this resulted in me getting heavy into Competitive Call of Duty. I joined IPlayCoD because they had great tournaments and a wonderful community that shared my passion for gaming. I fell in love with the IPC brand and the Call of Duty community. I discovered KARNAGE because of their heavy involvement in the CoD community and recognized they shared the constructive attitude that I believe is incredibly important to the development of the community and helping it impact the future of gaming. I joined KARNAGE because I truly believe there is no other organization better positioned to make a positive impact in gaming while being incredibly profitable for itself, it’s members and it’s strategic partners.

There is no other organization better positioned to make a positive impact in gaming

The main potential of any online business or brand is reach. Millions of users browse Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube every single day and in the world of marketing it’s all about how many eyes you can get on your particular brand. The important thing to note here is that KARNAGE is not one entity, each member of KARNAGE has their own following, forever expanding their online influence and reach with each new addition to the team.

But there’s still one thing missing. There is one value that, as we mentioned, KARNAGE really prides itself upon – family and positive change in the community. So exactly how do they go about this?

We asked KRNG Dexb0t (social media manager) to find out how KARNAGE uses it’s influence to push positive change within the community, either via it’s end-users or the actual developers themselves.

Overall we are all extremely passionate about growing our brand, as well as the community that supports us. We provide content to the community regarding news/information around the games we play, tips and tricks for said games, and for entertainment purposes. We also use feedback from our viewers, and the community to provide feedback and tips to gaming developers. The majority of our mindset when it comes to using feedback to be constructive. Offering to help with solutions, to solve the problem, or to assist people in understanding why some things, may be the way they are. In life, there will always be topics of discussion that people won’t see eye-to-eye on, but sometimes with a little bit of conversation, we can sometimes understand a reason for something’s existence. Constructive criticism will always take you further than being negative.

Constructive criticism will always take you further than being negative.

In summary, KARNAGE Clan is a positive force for change in the online community. Working with viewers and developers alike in order to create a space that everyone can feel involved, respected, and valued. Social media can be toxic, but with a community like the one KARNAGE has managed to build, you’ll always have people you can turn to. A real online family.

We’d like to thank; KARNAGE Clan; Dexb0t; THUMP3R; Apollo; Espresso and all KARNAGE members for their support in writing this article, and taking time to answer our burning questions. On the behalf of everybody at IPlayCOD, thank you for what you do. We wish you the absolute best.

With the introduction of Modern Warfare, we got cross play for the very first time. However, looking to COD 2020, this could be the same case, releasing on many different consoles. This newest installment will be on a total of four game systems and PC. If you include the different iterations of game systems (Xbox One, Xbox One X, PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5 and Xbox Series X) it will be on six game consoles. This difference in graphical power between systems will be in vast categories of resolution and frame rate.

The “G” word.

Graphics. Power. Frame Rate. You’ve heard them, you want more of all of them. The newest consoles will sure include all of the goods, however for the first time we could see frames on consoles surpassing 60. This won’t be much of an improvement to TV’s, but for monitors with 144hz refresh rates, this is huge. With current day consoles only capable of 60 FPS, COD on the PS5 and Xbox Series X will be butter smooth. Be on the lookout for future announcements regarding frame rates on those systems, as they may provide the premiere experience.

Crossplay

Modern Warfare successfully united an entire community of gamers across PC, Xbox and PS4. With this precedent set, we may see yet another year of crossplay coming to COD 2020. Considering the growing amount of consoles offered, we may see PS5 players joined with PS4 players, and Xbox One players joined with Series X players.

PS5

At CES 2020, PlayStation revealed the PS5 logo. Due to its striking resemblance to the PS4 logo, this may be further evidence that Sony is going for a console that will be combined with the previous playerbase. Reverse compatibility has been a goal for both Microsoft and Sony, so it may not be too much to assume that you will be able to playing with your friends on PS4, Xbox One and PC next year as well.

Every passing year, fans become excited about the newest installment of the Call Of Duty franchise. While Modern Warfare is still fresh on our minds, that doesn’t stop the curiosity regarding COD 2020. While we will have several months to guess the information on the next game, we do have one question already answered for us.

In a thread on Twitter, Treyarch developer David Vonderhaar was questioned by a fan about jetpacks in future COD games. In response, Vonderhaar commented a stern “NO!”.

Adding onto the thread, another fan commented “Jetpacks will revive cod!”.
Vonderhaar then doubled down on his statement in an additional reply.

Normally, COD fans do not get information this early regarding the game, but anti-jetpack players can rest well knowing there will be no jetpacks in COD 2020. This slight tease could point to the next game being set in modern day or the past.

As of October 8th, 2019, Call Of Duty Mobile has been out for one week, and the first week download data has been revealed. COD Mobile has officially been downloaded over 100 million times in its first week, shattering all first week app downloads.

According to data posted by Sensor Tower, Call Of Duty mobile has smashed records set previously by PUBG Mobile (PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) and Fortnite.

Fortnite saw 22.5 million downloads its first week of release, while PUBG saw 28 million downloads. (Note: Fortnite was only available on IOS devices for the first few months of release).

For the shooter genre, Call Of Duty has completely shut out expectations and previously set records. It even saw itself surpassing Mario Kart Tour’s impressive 90 million download record in a week.

It doesn’t end there however, COD Mobile is also pulling in large profits for Activision, raking in a total of $17.7 million in profits. Here’s the revenue breakdown, as explained by Sensor Tower.

” The Apple App Store accounted for $9.1 million in revenue, or 53 percent, while Android users spent $8.3 million, or 47 percent. The U.S. was by far the title’s biggest revenue generator, with players in the country spending $7.6 million, or 43.1 percent of its overall gross. Japan was the second highest grossing country with $2.4 million, or 13.7 percent, while Brazil came in third with $848,000, or 4.8 percent. “

We caught glimpses of a few Modern Warfare maps in this past week’s livestream. In some cases, we even got the actual map outlines. They showcased…

  • “Aniyah Palace” a 20v20 setting that gave us a look at the Ground War game mode.
  • “Grazna Raid” a 10v10 map set to the Headquarters game mode.
  • “Gun Runner” was the first 6v6 that showcased Domination
  • “Hackney Yard” was a 6v6 featuring Cyber Attack (NEW mode!)
  • “Azhir Cave” was a 6v6 with the classic Team Deathmatch
  • “Azhir Cave-Dark” was another 6v6 map with Team Deathmatch with something called “Realism” mode.

There were also some of the 2v2 Gunfighter maps. These are small, and we weren’t able to grab any of the map layouts.

  • “Stack”
  • “King”
  • “Pine”

With that, let’s get into the breakdown of each map we saw!

Modern Warfare Maps

Aniyah Palace

Modern Warfare Map: Aniyah Palace
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “Aniyah Palace” map load-in screen.

This map is MASSIVE! Fitting 40 players on a map isn’t easy, but the 20v20 maps are meant to provide plenty of options for moving around the map. It also allows you to pick your playstyle. Do you want to snipe? Or would you rather run and gun? In either case, the openness of these maps gives you choices without worrying about “lanes”.

Modern Warfare Map: Aniyah Palace - map layout
“Aniyah Palace” map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

If you look closely at the layout, you’ll notice buildings were different colors. The clearer buildings were generally one-story or were missing a roof while the whiter ones were two and three-story buildings.

We thought the 20v20 Ground War game mode would be absolutely insane with the number of people on a single map. However, it was surprisingly well balanced.

Grazna Raid

Modern Warfare Map: Grazna Raid
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “Grazna Raid” map load-in screen.

This felt like a slightly larger map compared to the standard 6v6 maps, but not nearly as big as the 20v20. Players engaged in a few quick skirmishes, but again the map felt very balanced and suited for various playstyles.

Gun Runner

Modern Warfare Map: Gun Runner
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “Gun Runner” map load-in screen.

This was a pretty cool map set in what felt like an abandoned train yard. The Domination mode seemed to flow very well, and teamwork was the obvious victor in the end.

Hackney Yard

Modern Warfare Map: Hackney Yard
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “Hackney Yard” map load-in screen.

The map was really cool, but the game mode was very interesting. In it, your goal was to retrieve an EMP and plant it at the enemy objective. If you got killed, you weren’t necessarily out of the game. Your teammates had the chance to come and pick you up (seemed like a 3-4 second revival time), but if your entire team was wiped – that was it.

Overall, the map had an intense and tactical feel to it. You had the opportunity to climb up onto the second floor of a building almost right out of the starting gate to gain an advantage. But there are so many buildings that if your playstyle is more of a “sub-machine gun (SMG) and clear rooms”, you still provided an edge for the team.

Azhir Cave

Modern Warfare Map: Azhir Cave
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “Azhir Cave” map load-in screen.

The map felt open in spite of a portion of it consisting of a large cave. Lots of open areas but still long sightlines that enabled sniping. You need to pay attention to your corners very closely as people can easily hide with a shotgun.

Azhir Cave-Dark

Modern Warfare Map: Azhir Cave-Dark
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “Azhir Cave-Dark” map load-in screen.

Intense. That’s what this game mode felt like. From what the developers were saying, each map has two versions – normal and dark. In the dark modes, night vision goggles (NVG) enable you to see the battlefield, and they’re a necessity. You have the option to toggle the NVGs on and off, but you can hardly see anything without them.

With the NVGs on, you can tell when someone is aiming their gun at you or near you. While you only see a red dot when aiming down the sight of your gun, you’ll be able to see the full laser line when others are aiming their guns. It gets a little tricky when you’re trying to tell a difference between your team’s lasers and the enemies’.

Gunfight Maps

These maps are small and intend to get players right into the thick of battle. Each round of the gunfight rounds starts players off with matching gun setups. You’ll get two rounds with each setup and then they switch to another setup. The round will end when the other team has been wiped out, a neutral flag is captured, or your team has the most health if neither of the first two objectives is accomplished in time. The flag appears after a set time in the middle of the playing field and a countdown will start. From there you have to finish eliminating the opposition, capture the flag, or be the team that has the most combined health.

Stack

Modern Warfare Map: Stack
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “Stack” map load-in screen.

This has a gun range feel to it. Each team starts out above the playing field and has a choice to make. Go down either side of the battlefield to try and flank the opponent, or go head-to-head down the middle. The choice is yours.

King

Modern Warfare Map: King
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “King” map load-in screen.

King felt a bit like an indoor gun range and brought back nostalgia for me as a player. The first two Modern Warfare titles’ campaign modes started you off with a run through a training course. You have several options in how to start this match. Immediately take the high-ground from the starting area, go down the middle, or seek shelter in the containers on each side of the map.

Pine

Modern Warfare Map: Pine
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s “Pine” map load-in screen.

This map felt challenging. The shrubs, the trees, and the layout almost require you to move with caution in any direction. Shipping containers in the center of the map provide cover but also makes you vulnerable to lethals. The high ground near your starting position provides you with a better line of sight visibility but also takes you out of the majority of the map’s cover. The shrubs conceal your movement but also provide a false sense of security.

That’s all we were able to see during the livestream. We can’t express just how excited we are for the beta to drop in September and finally immerse ourselves in the gameplay. What are your thoughts? Let us know what you think in the comments on Twitter or Facebook at @IPlayCod.

Modern Warfare’s Gunsmith Bench is a new feature for the Call of Duty landscape. We shared the teaser a couple of weeks ago here.

Each weapon allows a player to attach a variety of 30 to 60 attachments depending on the weapon. We dissected the below premier footage that shows each of the unique attachments showcased.

Modern Warfare – Gunsmith Overview

🔥🔥 GUNSMITH GAMEPLAY!! Make or break your loadout in Modern Warfare at the Gunsmith Bench. 🔥🔥

Posted by I Play COD on Friday, August 2, 2019
A complete overview provided at the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reveal on 08/01/2019.

There’s a lot to digest. We don’t have full details of how the attachments function from weapon to weapon, but here’s what we saw.

Breaking down the Gunsmith Bench

Assault Rifles

Gunsmith Bench
The M4A1 Gunsmith feature within Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Assault rifles (AR) are a staple of any Call of Duty game, and also seem to have the most potential for variety. The categories available within the M4A1 gunsmith bench were:

  • Muzzles
  • Lasers
  • Optics
  • Barrels
  • Underbarrels
  • Magazines
  • Rear Grips
  • Perks (for Guns)

Within each of these categories were various options that allow you to tailor the gun to how you play the game. Each attachment has a pro and con list breakdown with plus and minus symbols (sometimes more depending on how much the attachment impacts each pro or con) to help guide you to the right setup.

Keep in mind that we don’t know for sure whether each attachment will be unlocked in some way over time, or if they’re all available when the weapon is available. That said, some similar-sounding attachments have bigger impacts on your stats than others. Also, not all of the attachments were featured within the premier footage.

Let’s break down the attachments we saw in each category.

Muzzles

  • Flash Guard: suppresses the flash of your weapon to keep your muzzle flash from alerting nearby enemies.
  • Large Suppressor: silences the weapon while also increasing the gun’s range.
  • Compensator: reduces muzzle climb while laying down full-auto fire.
  • Suppressor: silences the weapon but also reduces damage and range.

Optics

Each optic has its own impact through the reticle available as well as how heavy it is on the gun. Way too many to break down, but we’ll add some features of note:

  • Operator Reflex Sight
  • Corp Combat Holo Sight
  • Aim-Op Reflex Sight
  • APX5 Holographic Sight
  • Hybrid Scope – West (alt): allows for both 1x and 4x magnifications.
  • Hybrid Scope – West (canted): allows for both 1x and 4x magnifications.
  • Merc Scout Optic (3x magnification)
  • G.I. Mini Reflex
  • Variable Zoom: allows for magnification toggle to allow for more effective mid to long-range engagements.

Barrels

  • Light weight Barrel: reduces the weight of the gun to aid in mobility at the cost of range.
  • Short Barrel: compact barrel that gives up accuracy and range for mobility and faster aim-down-sight capability (think close-quarter battles).
  • Long Barrel: increased range with reduced recoil that pays for the pros with decreased mobility.

Underbarrels

  • Angled Foregrip: provides better weapon control with a benefit to range while adding weight to the gun.
  • Vertical Foregrip: your standard foregrip that provides better control and range with a bigger hit to mobility.
  • CQB Grip: foregrip that enables better accuracy, range, and control with a similar cost to mobility.
  • Operator Vertical Foregrip: bigger impact to accuracy, hip-fire accuracy, range, and control.
  • Grenade Launcher: under-mounted M203 grenade launcher. The “noob tube”.

Stocks

  • Heavy Stock: the name gives away its direct impact on mobility, but does provide better range and control (sway and steadiness).
  • Close Quarters Stock: tactical stock that has a minimal penalty to mobility with an overall faster aim-down-sight speed.
  • Lightweight Stock: a light stock that allows for faster walking speed while aiming down the sights at a cost of increased gun sway and aiming unsteadiness.
  • No Stock: the sawed-off approach that allows for much faster movement speed while aiming at a cost of overall gun control.

Perks

  • Sleight of Hand: quicker reload speeds.
  • FMJ: increased bullet penetration and damage against equipment and killstreaks.
  • Stance Training: better accuracy in supported (mounted) positions.
  • Mo’ Money: more XP from headshots.
  • Burst: changes the firing mode to be a 3-round burst (if not that way by default).
  • Frangible – Wounding: causes automatic healing to be delayed.
  • Fast Melee: allows… for faster melee…
  • Burst Fire (3x) Enhanced: changes the firing mode to be a faster 3-round burst.
  • Presence of Mind: “Infinite hold breath”.

Unfortunately, they didn’t jump into the “Lasers”, “Magazines” or “Rear Grips” of the M4A1. However, the combinations that are allowed on it that we could see were pretty impressive. It pulls away from the standard of relying on a perk to provide the desired benefit with a lot more flexibility. You can equip up to five (5) individual attachments from the above categories.

Pistols

The .50 GS Gunsmith feature within Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The premier allowed for a very brief glimpse at pistol attachment categories and only one of the attachments available from each category. Without assuming too much, here’s what we saw in the .50 GS gunsmith bench:

  • Muzzles: none selected, but we presume it would have some similar options available compared to assault rifles.
  • Lasers: “Tac Laser”
  • Optic: none selected.
  • Barrel: “Long Slide” selected.
  • Trigger Actions: “Precision Trigger” selected.
  • Magazine: “High Capacity Extended Mags” selected.
  • Rear Grip: “Pistol Grip – Granulated” selected.
  • Perk: none selected.

That’s about all we can see in the coverage, but similar to the M4A1 you could only equip up to five (5)

It can’t be stressed enough. What you do at the Gunsmith bench will have a direct impact on how effective you are as a player. We are stoked to see what they have hidden in each category as well as see how the available attachments change from gun to gun (or even AR to AR).

Since it’s felt like an eternity, we wanted to provide the fans with a Modern Warfare Post-Reveal. In all reality, it’s only been around two months and a week (we may have been counting) since we received our first official announcement for Infinity Ward’s new Call of Duty titled “Modern Warfare”. But here we are, August 1st. Reveal day. A couple of nights ago we were invited to Los Angeles to get our hands on the game before anyone else, and now we can share what we saw with you.

First Things First…

If you’re already reading this and thinking to yourself “But IPC, it’s just another year another Call of Duty, this is no different to the last 6 titles!” That’s where you’re wrong. This is not Call of Duty as you know it. Fundamentally yes, but almost every aspect of the game has been redesigned from the ground up.

Players will find themselves thrown into a world they are familiar with. The game mechanics, aesthetics, and gameplay itself… this will all feel new. And it’s honestly great.

Killstreaks

Previously, we wrote about our first look at killstreaks in Modern Warfare (No, not scorestreaks. Killstreaks are back!), and if you missed it take a look here.

Killstreaks are back in Modern Warfare

We all had a taste of what Killstreaks would be included. Now let’s expand on that a little bit, as we got to witness these first-hand.

  • Juggernaut – have a care package dropped locked and stocked with the Juggernaut armor and a mini-gun.
  • Chopper Gunner – A fan favorite from the Modern Warfare series last two entries returns, in all its glory.
  • Infantry Assault Vehicle – This killstreak allows you to roam around the map in a manned armored vehicle, equipped with a .50 caliber machine gun. The cool thing about this bad boy, it seats two people.
  • Personal UAV – You can use this killstreak to access the old minimap, functioning as a normal UAV, however, this one only works for yourself.
  • UAV – Same as above, however, this one is team-wide.
  • Counter UAV – Classic Counter UAV, disabling enemy radar.
  • Care Package – Call in a care package containing a random streak, similar to old titles.

There are many more killstreaks in the game (and we mean a LOT). If you’re feeling nostalgic, some of you will be happy to hear that stackable streaks are returning in the form of a perk. This perk allows your killstreaks to count towards further killstreaks, at the expense of a perk slot.

Juggernaut and mini-gun in Modern Warfare

The Minimap and Game Modes

The constant appearance of a minimap as we know it is gone. It’s been replaced by a radar system that pings for enemy gunfire on a compass. The Personal UAV and Team UAV killstreaks are the only way to gain access to the minimap of old. This is a hot topic and the development team is considering different options.

The amount of content here is insane! Here’s a list of a few more things we saw during our time playing Modern Warfare.

  • 10v10 and 20v20 maps. Yep, large maps allowing for larger game modes will be in the game, including a playlist specifically for these. This actually means domination on these larger maps will have 5 flags to capture, instead of 3.
  • Gunsmith allows you to completely customize the look, playstyle, and feel of your weapon. Some guns can have up to 60+ attachments! With the seemingly endless variations for each weapon, you can really make or break a game at the gunsmith table. Play around and find the right playstyle for you. Never underestimate how much these attachments matter.
  • Driveable vehicles on the larger maps. These leave you vulnerable, but allow you to get around quicker. Some of the maps are massive.
  • Breach and Clear! You can find multiple ways to enter rooms in multiplayer. Whether you wish to go in full guns blazing or take a quieter approach. Either burst right through, peak and throw a flashbang or just shoot through it. The choice is yours.

This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of content, and we look forward to sharing more with you.

That’s it for our Modern Warfare Post-reveal for now. We’ve got plenty of gameplay footage that our very own Thump3r captured. Once you’ve watched the reveal, let us know your thoughts. Either in the comments, on Twitter or Facebook at @IPlayCod.

With the full reveal for Modern Warfare Multiplayer mode just around the corner (which IPlayCOD will be attending, so stay tuned), we now have our first official look at some of the games Killstreaks.

With this, it has been made clear now that Modern Warfare will be taking a somewhat nostalgic trip down memory lane by reverting to the Killstreaks system of old, most notably from Modern Warfare 1 and 2 – rather than the current “scorestreak” system we have seen over the last few years.

Modern Warfare news is coming thick and fast, check out the “Gunsmith” teaser video for our first look at weapon customization if you missed it!

White Phosphorous

Similar to the napalm strike in Black Ops, “WP” will disorient and burn any enemies caught in the strike. This one has received some controversy as White Phosphorous was scrutinized for being used as a chemical weapon. We will let you make your own mind up on this one!

Infantry Assault Vehicle

The Infantry Assault Vehicle is a Player-Controlled streak, sporting a large .50 cal machine gun. This one is sort of a chopper gunner.. on the ground.. that you can control. Fun!

Juggernaut

The Juggernaut suit is BACK! Bigger and better than ever, you will call this streak in via a care package (so find some good cover while you wait). Once inside, you will be able to decimate the field with your very own Gatling gun.

Jump in the comments and let us know which killstreaks you are hoping to see in Modern Warfare, and which of the above you can’t wait to get your hands on. And while you’re at it, make sure to follow us over on twitter @IPlayCOD and Facebook via the social links!

If you’re a Call of Duty enthusiast like we are, “stoked”, “excited”, “omg”, and several other single-word reactions came out after watching the trailer.

Initial Thoughts

The trailer jammed a lot of content in under two minutes. It starts off with a familiar voice that causes immediate nostalgia and leads into what appears to be gameplay from what will likely be a campaign mode.

As with previous Modern Warfare campaigns, the visuals and the storyline will test your mettle. Gun battles in public areas, riots, bombs striking the battlefield just when you feel you’ve made it to a safe place, and night vision battles seek to build on the franchise’s history of unique gameplay. It all seems like the standard intensity of the campaign mode. Whether you choose to be good or evil, as always the choice will be yours.

The true fans of the franchise remember the “All Ghillied Up” sniper mission from the original Modern Warfare. I’ve easily played it at least a dozen times. It set an expectation of future gameplay. It immersed you in a desolate field as Captain Price. Being led past enemy patrols while using the Ghillie suit to hide in plain sight.

Lastly, there was a callout in the video that eluded we might have some additional unique wasteland-like battles ahead. The kid was creepy just casually playing in a radioactive field. It’s just another teaser that will likely set the standard for the next game in the franchise’s history.

The Modern Warfare game trailer sets the bar pretty high. What unique and innovative features will they include? We are beyond excited to see what Infinity Ward and Activision will release over the next few months.
